Thinking of getting a new gate installed yet can't make your mind about one? Read on to learn all the requirements and characteristics of different gate types to get an idea!
Swinging Gates – For the Classic Look
These gates swing inwards or outwards (or possibly in both directions). This kind of gate is perfect for a cozy house. They give it the classic touch, either in wood or wrought iron for a fancier look. One thing to keep in mind is that the terrain must be straight (without an incline that might get in the way). You also need to make sure there is enough space for the entire gate to swing in or out (or both ways, depending on your choice).
Modern Look with Sliding Gates
Sliding gates, as their name suggests, slide side-ways on a set track. These offer a more sophisticated and modern look, especially the steel and iron models. A wooden option can be a great choice as well if you want to go in-between classic and modern, yet regular maintenance and needs should be considered. Unlike the swinging gate, the only space required is actually the side where the gate will slide into, and there can be an incline before or after the gate. This way, these gates fit for many needs and properties.
Barrier Gates – For Extra Privacy
These gates are often found at the helm of gated communities. They open and close to control the flow of traffic in and out of the property. In these cases, they're either controlled manually from within a toll booth or automatically. The operator for a barrier gate has an arm that is raised and lowered at will.
Overhead Gates - for the Door Look
These gates are usually in properties restricted in the amount of space available. They're heavier than the other kinds since they are mounted up on the wall. They open and close in a way like a garage door does. Installing this kind is more work. The operator is much harder to design and accommodate for in these gates.
Don't Forget the Openers!
All the types above can be fully automated by having an opener installed. There are not enough words to describe how much more comfortable and safe it is to have the gate opened and closed for you and your car, especially on a bad weather. Almost every opener model can be used on every residential-type gate, but it's always a good idea to consult with a specialist on the matter.
